SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 24, 2018) – Seventy-seven Western New England University student-athletes from fall programs have been recognized for their performance in the classroom with Academic All-Conference honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the league office announced on Wednesday morning.
The Western New England football team, which captured the inaugural CCC Football title last fall, led the way with 34 selections, the second highest total for the sport. The women's soccer program had 13 honorees, while men's soccer and field hockey had ten and nine, respectively.
Included among the list of 77 student-athletes were 13 individuals that also garnered All-Conference accolades for their athletic performance. Nine of those Golden Bears were All-CCC first team performers – seniors Sam Olsson (Milford, Conn.), Spencer Goodman (Haddon Heights, N.J.) and Dillon Martin (Ashland, Mass.) as well as juniors Sean Stergas (Cambridge, Vt.) and Kurtis Jolicoeur (Windham, N.H.) of the football team, senior Brooke Labrie (Granby, Mass.) and sophomore Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) of the women's soccer team, senior Samantha Krumpholz (Florence, Mass.) of the field hockey team, and junior Meagan Dias (Ludlow, Mass.) of the women's cross country team.
Note: The CCC's Academic All-Conference teams recognize student-athletes that have maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average (football) / 3.3 GPA (all other sports) and have attained at least sophomore status at their institution.
