SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior volleyball co-captain Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) and sophomore cross-country standout Jeff Wagner (Norwalk, CT) were honored Wednesday (Sept. 16) as the Western New England College Female and Male Athletes-of-the-Week.
Cervone, an outside hitter, totaled 45 kills as the Golden Bears swept all four matches to capture its own WNEC Invitational. She compiled a season high 16 kills along with seven digs in the championship match over Western Connecticut, and contributed 15 kills with a season best nine digs against Westfield State.
A Business Management major, Cervone earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Wagner set a school record for 5,000 meters with a time of 17 minutes, 26 seconds to finish ninth among 119 competitors at the season-opening Smith Coed Invitational. His performance helped the Golden Bears place fourth among nine schools in the team scoring. Wagner is a Mechanical Engineering major.
