Brendan Murphy and Ashley Petersen selected Western New England College Athletes-of-the-Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior men’s basketball tri-captain Brendan Murphy (West Springfield, MA) and sophomore women’s swimming standout Ashley Petersen (Manchester, CT) were honored Wednesday (Feb. 17) as the Western New England College Male and Female Athletes-of-the-Week.
Murphy, a guard/forward, averaged 16.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in three games. He fired in 21-points (his second highest total of the season) in a five-point victory over Regis and netted 12 points with four rebounds in a two-point overtime loss at city rival Springfield. Murphy ended the week by scoring 17 points with four assists in a four-point loss against league leader Gordon. He is a Marketing major.
Petersen placed first in both the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 9.09 seconds) and 100 freestyle (59.37 seconds) events in a meet against Eastern Connecticut, and also swam the second leg on the 200 freestyle relay squad, which finished first in (1:51.35) against the Warriors. She is a Criminal Justice Major.
