SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
- Western New England College women's basketball guards Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) and Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) each gained a pair of major awards from The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) on Tuesday (Feb. 23).

Al-Darraji was named TCCC Senior Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year and voted to TCCC First Team.

Savino gained All-TCCC Rookie-of-the-Year honors and made the Conference Third Team after a tremendous rookie campaign. 

A team co-captain, Al-Darraji has a 3.83 cumulative grade-point-average in Marketing. Earlier  this month she was selected to the ESPN the Magazine College Division District 1 Academic Team.

Al-Darraji is first on the Golden Bears' squad in three-pointers (50) and steals (39), and second in scoring (13.4 avg.) and assists (56).

Playing point guard, Savino leads the team in scoring (14.2 avg.), field-goal percentage (.452), free-throw percentage (.884), and assists (70). In addition, she is second in steals (36) and third in rebounding (4.9 avg.).

Savino is a Sport Management major.

Western New England College posted a 15-9 record during the regular season (after going 12-13 last year) and placed seventh in the league with a 7-6 mark. The Golden Bears visit second-seeded Endicott (18-6, 11-2 TCCC) at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 23) in a quarterfinal round contest of the conference tournament.
