BRISTOL, R.I. - The Western New England College softball team ended its regular season on a positive note with a 4-1, 7-0 sweep over host Roger Williams Saturday evening (Apr. 24) at Paolino Field.
The Golden Bears, who earned the third seed in the upcoming league playoffs, raised their record to 22-17-1 overall and 16-7-1 in the conference.
Sophomore
Sarah Lempicki (Plantsville, CT) pitched and batted the visitors to the win in the opener. She went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, and gave up only seven hits with six strikeouts and three walks. She is now 6-3 on the season.
The Golden Bears scored single runs in the second, third, fifth, and seven innings.
Junior catcher
Elyse Gauvin (Swansea, MA) gave WNEC a 1-0 lead with a RBI single and a sacrifice fly by freshman shortstop
Jeana Longo (Schenectady, NY) made it 3-1 in the fifth. Senior second base player
Kate Post (Bridgewater, MA) also had a single, run, and RBI.

Erica Castro (Medford, NY) had two hits for the Hawks.

Meagan Riemann (Thompson, CT) allowed only four hits in six innings with eight strikeouts and three walks for her seventh win of the spring. Senior
Victoria Lospinuso (West Islip, NY) walked one and struck out a batter in the seventh to complete the shutout.

Lauren Arsenault (Fitchburg, MA) went 3-for-4 with a run, and three RBI. Her two-run single gave the Golden Bears a 2-0 lead in the third,
WNEC tacked on three more runs in the fifth on run-producing doubles by Arsenault and Lempicki, and a RBI single by sophomore shortstop
Sara Barnes (Berkley, MA) the big hits. Barnes finished with two hits and a walk.
A run-scoring single by senior right fielder
Christina Farese (Marlborough, MA) highlighted a two-run seventh.

Hannah Pirez (Bolton, CT) reached base three times with a single and two walks.
The Hawks end their season with a 20-19 record and 12-12 mark in the conference.
Western New England College will meet either sixth-seeded Curry or seventh-seeded Nichols at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday (Apr. 27) in Biddeford, Maine. Curry and Nichols will meet in a play-in contest (weather permitting) on Monday (Apr. 26).
