BIDDEFORD, Maine - Third-seeded Western New England College lashed out 10 hits in posting a 9-3 victory over sixth-seeded Curry in an opening round game of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Softball Tournament Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 28).
The Golden Bears were then scheduled to meet second-seeded University of New England, but that game was postponed because of rain. The teams will meet at 2:30 p.m. Thursday (Apr. 29).
Three sophomores played key roles in the victory.

Rachel Wyrwa (Methuen, MA) singled, doubled, and scored a pair of runs. Third base player
Sara Barnes (Berkeley, MA) singled twice and scored three runs. Pitcher
Sarah Lempicki (Plantsville, CT) had a complete game performance allowing 11 hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
The Golden Bears scored three runs in the fourth as freshman shortstop
Jeana Longo (Schenectady, NY) and junior first base player
Trish Breault (Millville, MA) had RBI singles.
Western New England College made it 7-0 with four runs in the fifth as Wyrwa and senior second base player
Kate Post (Bridgewater, MA) belted back-to-back one-out doubles, and junior catcher
Elyse Gauvin (Swansea, MA) had a RBI single in the inning.
Curry (19-20) got on the board when freshman
Amanda Feizmann (Bellingham, MA) laced a three-run double in the sixth before WNEC added its final two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Senior third base player
Kristen Jackman (Stoughton, MA) had a big day at the plate for the Colonels going 4-for-4 with a run. Freshman right fielder
Marissa Strangie (Rowley, MA) contributed three hits.
