Two-sport standout Nicole Poli repeat winner as WNEC Female Athlete-of-the-Year

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Two-sport standout Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA) was a repeat recipient of the Western New England College Female Athlete Award that was presented at the school's Spring Sports Banquet Sunday night (May 9).
Poli, a junior, was among the top members of both the women's lacrosse and soccer teams this past season.
In lacrosse, Poli was named The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Defensive Player-of-the-Year and named to the All-TCCC First Team. She ranks 13th nationally in caused turnovers (2.56 avg.) and led the team in ground balls (3.25). Poli also was second in league games in both categories.
She also compiled 19 points (11 goals, 8 assists) from her lower defender position this spring.
Western New England College finished with an 11-8 record for the program's 11th consecutive winning campaign and placed fourth in the conference with an 8-3 mark.
Last fall Poli earned a spot on the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Division III All-New England Third Team. She was a Second-Team All-Conference selection and the team's Defensive Player-of-the-Year.
The Golden Bears posted a 10-9-2 record and took second in TCCC Tournament after finishing sixth in the league during the regular season.
Poli, a Psychology, will serve as a team captain for both teams in 2010-11.
