SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
– Western New England College senior first baseman Joe Griglun (Southington, CT) ended his outstanding career in grand style by being named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III All-American Second Team.

Griglun, who received his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, enjoyed one of the finest seasons in school history this team after leading the team with a .435 batting average.

He established a school record for hits (77), smashing the old mark of 70 set last year by teammate Tony Trubia (Tolland, CT). Griglun also posted new team marks in total bases (112) and tied season records for doubles (17) and sacrifice flies (8).

During the season Griglun enjoyed a 16-game hitting streak and compiled 23 multi-hit contests along with 18 multiple RBI games.

Defensively, he made only two errors in 380 chances for a sensational .995 fielding percentage in 2010.

Griglun finished his outstanding career with a .388 batting average, which ranks third on the school’s all-time list. He set another school record for runs-batted-in (165) and finished third in both hits (207) and total bases (280).

Earlier this spring Griglun was selected to both the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) and The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) First Teams. He also was the recipient of the WNEC Silver Slugger Award.

With Griglun helping to lead the way, Western New England College posted a 34-12 record for the program’s 16th consecutive winning campaign. The Golden Bears captured their fifth consecutive conference title and third straight TCCC crown, and advanced to the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament for the sixth time in last seven years.

Griglun has one more game remaining in his collegiate career.

He will wear his #25 Golden Bears’ uniform for the final time as a member of the Division II-III All-Star Team who will meet the Division I Stars in the annual NEIBA Senior All-Star Game at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 6 at Fenway Park.
