SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- This is the first installment highlighting the members of the 2010 Class of the Western New England College Downes Athletic Hall of Fame.
Norm Leclerc will be among five individuals and a team inducted during Homecoming Weekend on Friday, October 1.
Dedication to job and students earns ticket to Hall of Fame
Norm Leclerc has been a popular figure among student-athletes, coaches, and members of the Western New England College community for four decades.
"Hard-working, dedicated, compassionate, these are but a few of the attributes that Norm possesses," said Western New England College athletics director
Mike Theulen. "In an age where people look to get by with minimal effort, Norm serves to remind us about what it is to do a GREAT job with no expectation of notoriety or reward.
"He is the epitome of the values we hold dear in our Athletic Family. NO ONE represents us better than Norm Leclerc. Every student-athlete who has represented this fine College during Norm's tenure knows who he is and respects highly what he has done for them. If it is true that the famous people are known by one name, then count Norm as being on this list."
A triplet, Norm was born in Brooklyn, New York, but spent most of his youth living in Lewiston, Maine before entering the service in 1948. He then worked in private industry for over a decade.
Norm joined the Western New England College Facilities Management staff in 1970.
After he retired in 1992, Norm joined the athletics department on a part-time basis. He served in a variety of capacities assisting with special events, contest management, equipment issue, and the supervision of student employees.
No job was too big or too small for the former Navy veteran.
Western New England Colleges salutes Norm for his commitment, devotion, and loyalty to the Golden Bears’ athletics program.
