Kyle Yelin (Southwick, MA) scored an early goal in the 18th minute and the Westfield State men's soccer team kept Western New England College off the board in posting a 1-0 shutout victory in the season opener for both squads Wednesday night (Sept. 1).

Westfield almost added an insurance goal in the second half when sophomore midfielder

Corey Howard (Hopedale, MA) in the 61st minute and a header by freshman midfielder
Kevin Parma (Peconic, NY) in the 78th minute both hit the crossbar.
