SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 2, 2016) -
Senior infielder Eduardo Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) of the Western New England University baseball team has been selected as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon.
 
Colmenares powered Western New England's offense last week as the Golden Bears went 5-1 (4-0 CCC) and secured the top seed in the CCC Tournament. He hit .643 (9-for-14) with a double, two home runs and eight RBI, while also drawing four walks and scoring seven runs.
 
Colmenares went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, one RBI and two runs scored in Western New England's 6-2 win over Curry on Saturday. The senior followed that up by going a combined 5-for-7 with a home run, two walks, five RBI and three runs as the Golden Bears swept a doubleheader from Salve Regina on Sunday. He also belted a home run in Thursday's win at RPI and finished the week with a .714 on-base percentage and a 1.143 slugging percentage.
 
Through the end of the regular season, Colmenares ranks third in the CCC in batting average (.403), home runs (4), runs batted in (38). He has also scored 40 runs (4th in CCC) and drawn 13 walks.
 
Western New England (28-9, 13-3 CCC) opens the CCC Tournament at home on Thursday against sixth-seeded Curry. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Trelease Park.
