Worcester, Mass. native hit .471 with eight RBI and eight runs in 5-0 week for Golden Bears
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 9, 2018) – Junior outfielder Erik Lacaire (Worcester, Mass.) of the Western New England University baseball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Lacaire earns this honor for the second time in his career after helping lead the Golden Bears to a 5-0 week that included CCC doubleheader sweeps over Eastern Nazarene and Salve Regina.
The Worcester, Mass. native hit .471 (8-for-17) with two walks, four doubles, eight RBI and eight runs scored over the five-game stretch. He also stole four bases and posted a .706 slugging percentage with a .471 on-base percentage. Lacaire had at least one hit in all five games with two multi-hit efforts.
In the opener against Eastern Nazarene on Thursday, he went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, two RBI, two steals and four runs as the Golden Bears rolled to a 20-3 triumph.
Two days later in Western New England's game one win at Salve, he posted a 2-for-3 effort with another double, one RBI and three runs in a 16-2 victory.
Through 20 games this season, Lacaire is hitting .329 (27-for-82) with six doubles, one triple, two home runs and 21 RBI. He has walked six times, stolen 15 bases and scored 22 runs while posting a .411 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage.
Western New England (16-4, 4-0 CCC), which has won seven games in a row, will host Westfield State in a non-conference contest on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
