Southwick, Mass. native limited Springfield to two unearned runs over seven innings on Saturday
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 11, 2019) – Senior lefthander Bob Hamel (Southwick, Mass.) of the Western New England University baseball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
In his only start of the week against Springfield College on Saturday, Hamel struck out six batters limited the Pride to two unearned runs over seven innings of work, but did not earn a decision in an eventual 3-2 walkoff win for the Golden Bears.
Through two starts this season, the senior southpaw is 0-0 with a 0.69 earned run average and nine strikeouts in 13.0 innings on the mound.
Hamel, who posted the lowest ERA in NCAA Division III (0.95) as a junior last season, has a career record of 21-3 with a 1.60 ERA and 148 strikeouts in 179.2 innings.
Western New England (1-1) travels to crosstown rival Springfield College tomorrow afternoon for its final game before heading down south to Lexington, South Carolina for seven contests at the Spartan Southern Classic.
