SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 25, 2019) – Senior shortstop Alex Loparco (Riverside, Conn.) of the Western New England University baseball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Loparco batted .536 (15-for-28) with three doubles, five walks, six RBI and eight runs scored in a 4-3 week for the Golden Bears.
He had at least one hit in all seven games with five multi-hit performances. Loparco went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Western New England's 16-14 win over Oswego on Tuesday. He posted another 3-for-5 effort against the Lakers on Thursday, with one RBI and two runs scored in a 6-5 loss.
In Western New England's CCC-opening sweep of Wentworth on Saturday, Loparco went a combined 5-for-8 with three RBI, three runs and four steals. He posted a .576 on-base percentage and a .643 slugging percentage for the week.
Loparco, the 2018 CCC Player of the Year, has a .333 career batting average with 35 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 96 RBI. He has also walked 68 times, scored 114 runs and stolen 41 bases.
Western New England (6-5, 2-0 CCC) will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon with a non-conference contest against Framingham State at 3:30 p.m. at Trelease Park.
