Service named Offensive Player of the Week, House receives Defensive Rookie of the Week honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 29, 2017) – Senior quarterback Anthony Service (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and freshman cornerback Zhaire House (Greenwich, Conn.) of the Western New England University football team have both earned weekly awards from Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC Football), the league office announced on Sunday.
Service was named Offensive Player of the Week, while House received Defensive Rookie of the Week accolades following Western New England's 35-26 CCC Football victory over Salve Regina University on Saturday at Golden Bear Stadium.
Service earns this honor for the second time this season after completing 19-of-28 pass attempts for 224 yards and three touchdowns against the Seahawks. He also picked up 23 yards on the ground in the key conference victory.
Through eight games this season, Service has completed 108-of-193 pass attempts (56%) for 1617 yards with 15 touchdowns and just one interception.
House is being recognized as the CCC Football Defensive Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after making several key plays on Saturday. He recorded seven tackles (all solo), recovered a fumble, and picked off a pass in the second quarter that led to Western New England's third touchdown of the day. House was also credited with a pass breakup in the win.
The Greenwich, Conn. native has played in all eight games this season, recording 33 tackles (28 solo), two fumble recoveries, one interception and five pass breakups.
Western New England (6-2, 3-0 CCC Football) will be on the road at Curry College next Saturday (Nov. 4) at 1 p.m. with an opportunity to clinch the CCC Football title.
