Devine-Scott named Defensive POW, Lombard earns Special Teams POW recognition
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 8, 2019) – Sophomore defensive back Bailey Devine-Scott (Wattle Grove, Australia) and senior kicker Kieran Lombard (Dover, N.H.) of the Western New England University football team were both honored with weekly awards from Commonwealth Coast Football following the Golden Bears' 33-17, season-opening victory over Springfield College on Saturday.
Devine-Scott collected his first career Defensive Player of the Week award, while Lombard was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time.
Devine-Scott led a Western New England defensive unit that surrendered just 17 points while limiting the Pride to a 31% (4-of-13) conversion rate on third down.
The Wattle Grove, Australia native recorded a game-high 12 tackles (nine solo) with four pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Lombard also played a key role in the victory over the Pride, as he connected on all four of his field goal attempts and went 3-for-3 on extra point tries. The Dover, N.H. native matched his season totals for made field goals from the 2017 and 2018 campaigns with Saturday's performance.
Western New England (1-0) travels to Westfield State on Friday night (9/13) at 7 p.m. to battle the Owls with the Presidents' Cup on the line.
