SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 29, 2019) – Senior running back Jamyre Soberanis (Dorchester, Mass.) and freshman running back EJ Dudley (Meriden, Conn.) of the Western New England University football team both received weekly awards from Commonwealth Coast Football, the league office announced on Sunday.
Soberanis and Dudley played key roles in Western New England's 50-38 victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon at Blue Storm Stadium in Biddeford, Maine. The Golden Bears produced a season-high 313 rushing yards on 42 attempts (7.5 avg.) in the win.
Soberanis had a career day, racking up 202 yards from scrimmage with four total touchdowns. The senior carried the ball 21 times for a career-high 168 yards and three scores, while also catching two passes for 34 yards and a touchdown. Soberanis found the end zone on a 12-yard run early in the third quarter, before scoring on a one-yard plunge late in the period. He later capped the scoring for the Golden Bears with a 22-yard scamper with 12:19 left in the contest. His receiving touchdown, a six-yard catch, came with 22 seconds remaining in the first half.
Through four games this season, Soberanis has rushed for 245 yards on 41 carries (6.0 avg.) with five touchdowns.
Dudley turned in the best performance of his freshman campaign against the Nor'easters, recording season-highs in both rushes (8) and yards (43). Dudley scored a touchdown for the second straight game on a five-yard run early in the second quarter.
Western New England (3-1, 1-0 CCC) returns home next Saturday (10/5) to take on Nichols College at 1 p.m.
