Klesyk registers first career goal for Golden Bears
BIDDEFORD, Maine (September 12, 2018) – The Western New England University field hockey team dropped its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener to the University of New England, 5-1, on Wednesday evening at UNE's Blue Bolt Field.
Freshman forward Taylor Klesyk (Hamden, Conn.) was the lone goal scorer for Western New England with her tally early in the second half.
The Nor'easters were paced by senior Kersey Boulay (Liberty, Maine), who recorded two goals. Freshman Julia Steeves (Skowhegan, Maine) chipped in with a goal and an assist for UNE.
Steeves opened the scoring 9:49 into the contest with the help of an assist from freshman Bailey Lynch (Upton, Mass.), and the Nor'easters led by the same margin at the break after outshooting the Golden Bears 14-3 in the first half.
Western New England senior Lana Felice (Pawling, N.Y.) set up Klesyk for the equalizer less than four minutes into the second half, but UNE quickly regained the lead on a goal that came off a penalty corner at the 42:14 mark.
Sophomore Reanna Boulay (Liberty, Maine) added to the Nor'easters' lead five minutes later, before Kersey Boulay scored her second of the night to make it 4-1 with 15 minutes remaining in the contest. The home team would tack on one final goal shortly after to extend the final margin to 5-1.
• Western New England senior goalkeeper Dana Dufour (Gloucester, Mass.) made nine saves in the loss.
• UNE outshot the Golden Bears 24-5 and held an 11-2 edge in penalty corners.
Western New England (0-4, 0-1 CCC) resumes CCC play on Saturday at Salve Regina, while UNE (1-4, 1-0 CCC) travels to Wellesley on Sunday.
