Milford, Conn. native averaged 18.5 points & 5.0 rebounds per game last week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (December 4, 2017) – Freshman forward Zach Tavitian (Milford, Conn.) of the Western New England University men's basketball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Tavitian averaged 18.5 points on 70 percent shooting from the field (14-of-20), 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game in a pair of close CCC losses for the Golden Bears last week. He opened his week with 17 points, six rebounds and two blocks against Roger Williams on Wednesday, before recording 20 points, four boards and two blocks against Salve Regina on Saturday.
Through six games this season, Tavitian is averaging 12.3 points per game on 56.9 percent shooting from the field, including 41.2 percent from three-point distance. He has scored in double figures in four of six contests while also posting a nine-point effort. Tavitian is averaging 4.3 rebounds per game with a trio of six-rebound performances.
A 2017 graduate of Joseph A. Foran High School, Tavitian earned varsity letters in basketball, lacrosse and soccer for the Lions.
Western New England (1-5, 0-2 CCC) returns to action on Tuesday at Eastern Nazarene College, before hosting Connecticut College and Westfield State University in non-conference contests on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
