SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 8, 2018) –
Junior guard Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) and freshman forward Zach Tavitian (Milford, Conn.) of the Western New England University men's basketball team have both been recognized with weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) following the Golden Bears' overtime victory at No. 21 Nichols College on Saturday.

Pettway was named the CCC Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Tavitian collected his second Rookie of the Week award. The duo helped the Golden Bears defeat the Bison 100-94 in overtime for Western New England's fourth consecutive victory.

Pettway continued his strong junior campaign with a career-high 38 points on 17-of-24 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 from the free throw line to go with seven assists, four rebounds and four steals. In six career contests against Nichols, the Bridgeport, Conn. native is averaging over 24 points per game with a trio of 30+ point performances.

Tavitian finished one rebound shy of his first career double-double on Saturday, as he turned in a 13-point, nine-rebound effort for the Golden Bears.

Western New England (5-5, 2-2 CCC) will be back in action on Tuesday night at Endicott College, with opening tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
