Zach Tavitian Named CCC Rookie of the Week for the Third Time This Season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 16, 2018) –
For the third time this season, Western New England University freshman forward Zach Tavitian (Milford, Conn.) has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. 

In three games last week, Tavitian averaged 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game while shooting 55 percent (18-of-33) from the field.

Tavitian opened his week with six points, three rebounds and three blocks at Endicott on Tuesday, before recording 11 points, six boards, one block and one steal against Curry on Thursday.

The Milford, Conn. native wrapped up the week with his first career double-double, as he shot 12-of-18 (66.7%) from the field on his way to a season-high 29 points, while also grabbing a season-best ten rebounds and blocking three more shots.

Through 13 games this season, Tavitian has started every contest and is averaging 12.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

Western New England (6-7, 3-4 CCC) will be back in action on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. against Wentworth.
