Beauchamp named Offensive Player of the Week, Cocks earns Specialist of the Week honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 12, 2018) – Senior midfielder Nicholas Beauchamp (Wilbraham, Mass.) and junior faceoff specialist Hunter Cocks (Walden, N.Y.) of the Western New England University men's lacrosse team have both earned weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Beauchamp was named the CCC Offensive Player of the Week, while Cocks earned Specialist of the Week honors. The Golden Bears went 1-1 last week with a 19-10 road loss to No. 11 Amherst on Tuesday, and a 19-10 neutral site triumph over Nazareth College at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on Sunday.
Beauchamp powered the Western New England offense with 12 points over the two games, beginning with a career-high seven-point effort (four goals, three assists) against the Mammoths. The senior then produced a career-best five goals in Sunday's victory over the Golden Flyers.
Through four games this season, Beauchamp leads the team and ranks ninth in the CCC with 16 points on ten goals and six assists.
Cocks won 60 percent of his faceoffs over the two-game stretch, including a dominant 24-for-31 performance in the win over Nazareth. He also collected 16 ground balls against the Golden Flyers and finished with 25 for the week. Against Amherst on Tuesday, Cocks scored his third goal of the season.
Western New England (3-1) travels to Manchester, N.H. on Wednesday to take on Bates College on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University at 5 p.m.
