SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 15, 2019) – Junior goalkeeper Sean McCusker (Northport, N.Y.) and freshman attackman Mike Bannon (Edmond, Okla.) of the Western New England University men's lacrosse team have both earned weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the league office announced on Monday.
McCusker collected his second CCC Defensive Player of the Week award, while Bannon was named the CCC Rookie of the Week for the sixth time during his freshman campaign.
Last week, the Golden Bears registered a 17-9 road victory at Gordon on Wednesday before topping Endicott 10-7 on Saturday in a battle of the final two remaining unbeaten teams in CCC play.
In the win over the Fighting Scots, Bannon scored two goals and dished out one assist, while McCusker made seven saves on 16 shots.
Then on Saturday, Bannon posted another three-point effort (one goal, two assists) and McCusker stopped 11 of the 18 attempts that came his way.
Over the two game stretch, Bannon produced six points (three goals, three assists) and McCusker posted an 8.00 goals against average with a 52.9 save percentage.
Western New England (9-4, 6-0 CCC) travels to Curry on Tuesday night, before returning home on Friday for a non-conference contest against Colorado College.
