Western New England College tops Fighting Scots in conference opener

WENHAM, Mass. - Led by the number one doubles team of sophomores Brian Relihan (Orange, CT) and Mike Jones (Stone Ridge, NY), the Western New England College men's tennis team defeated Gordon 6-1 for its fourth consecutive victory Thursday (March 26).

This was The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opener for the Golden Bears who are now 4-2.

Relihan and Jones stayed unbeaten with a perfect 5-0 mark after posting an 8-2 decision over freshman Gary Gaudio and senior Blake Larson.

Relihan and Jones also captured their respective No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches in straight sets.

Senior co-captain Alex Boutin (Bristol, CT) posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Gaudio at the No. 1 singles flight.

The Fighting Scots drop to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Two singles matches weren't played because of rain.
