Western New England College falls to Salve Regina in final match of regular season

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Western New England College men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to Salve Regina in the final match of the regular season Thursday afternoon (April 16).

Freshman JonPaul Ouellette (Bethlehem, CT) was the lone winner for the Golden Bears taking his No. 6 singles match with a come-from-behind 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) decision.

Sophomore Mike Jones (Stone Ridge, NY) had one of the most exciting matches despite falling 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) at the No. 3 singles spot.

Western New England College (7-7) placed third in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with a 4-5 mark.

Salve Regina (8-9) finished second in the league with a 7-2 record.

The Golden Bears will visit third-seeded Endicott (10-5, 7-2 TCCC) at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (April 18) in a quarterfinal round match of the conference tournament.
