QUINCY, Mass. - Freshman forward Alexis Malloy (Greenbelt, MD) had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Eastern Nazarene women's basketball team to a 54-51 victory over Western New England College Wednesday evening (Feb. 3).
Senior guard Christine Tucker (Oakland, CA) also tossed in 13 points and had six assists for the Lions who are now 8-12 overall and 2-6 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). Senior forward Jessica Schoppee (Scarborough, ME) was the third player in double figures with 10 points.
Western New England College trailed 20-19 at halftime and had a three-point lead at 31-28 following a three-pointer by senior guard Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) at the 15:36 mark.
Eastern Nazarene took its biggest advantage at 41-35 after Schoppee made a lay-up with 7:53 left.
The Golden Bears got within one twice down the stretch, the last time at 52-51 when freshman center Elena Radzikowski (Medway, MA) scored on a lay-up with 22 seconds remaining.
Tucker sank two free throws with 13 seconds remaining before Al-Darraji missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Freshman guard Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) led Western New England College with 12 points while sophomore forward Sarah Proper (Coxsackie, NY) added 10 points and five rebounds. Radzikowski finished with seven points and seven rebounds. Al-Darraji also netted seven points.
This was the second straight three-point loss for the Golden Bears who slip to 11-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
