Western New England Moves Up in NEWA Coaches’ Poll

Three Golden Bears featured in individual rankings

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 25, 2017) –
The Western New England University wrestling team has moved up in the latest New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Coaches' Poll, which was released on Tuesday.

The Golden Bears, who were ranked No. 10 in the NEWA Tournament Rankings last week, climbed one spot to No. 9 this week ahead of Williams College. Western New England also entered the Top 10 in the NEWA Dual Meet Rankings at No. 10.

Additionally, three Golden Bears are featured in this week's NEWA Individual Rankings. Sophomore Davey Goodall (Chelmsford, Mass.) is ranked No. 5 at 165 pounds, while classmate Ryan Guers (Orwigsburg, Pa.) is No. 6 at 174 and John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.) moved up to No. 2 at 184 pounds.

Goodall and Boyle both picked up wins in Western New England's dual at WPI on Tuesday night. Boyle was also the 184-pound champion at Springfield College's Doug Parker Invitational last weekend, while Guers earned his first collegiate triumph against Ryan Hardy of Springfield College on November 11.

Western New England will be back in action on Friday night, when the Golden Bears host Rhode Island College in their home opener and Alumni Appreciation Night at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
