NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. –The Western New England College women’s swimming team ended its season by finishing 14th among 21 schools at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championship held February 15-17 at UMass Dartmouth.
The Golden Bears totaled 147 points during the three days of competition. Keene State captured top honors with 982 points with Bentley (900), Bryant (748), Bridgewater State (510.5), and Westfield State (428) rounding out the top five.
Senior tri-captain Cori Eggert (Denville, NJ) led the Golden Bears by scoring 43 points in three individual events. She was sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.16), seventh in the 50 breaststroke (34.32), and 12th in the 200 breaststroke (2:44.49).
Freshman Aimee Smachetti (Bristol, CT) completed a successful rookie campaign by compiling 29 points in three races. She placed eighth in the 200 butterfly (2:24.59), 10th in the 100 butterfly (1:05.64), and 14th in the 50 butterfly (29.78).
Sophomore Krista Goulet (Saco, ME) totaled 11 points in three events, finishing 13th in the 100 individual medley (1:08.64), 16th in the 200 backstroke (2:25.07), and 18th in the 100 backstroke (1:08.46).
Goulet and Smachetti also were members of four relay teams that scored points while Eggert swam on three relays that finished in the team scoring. The relay squads accounted for 64 of the team’s points.
