Western New England College opens second semester with several strong performances

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Western New England College women’s swimming team opened the 2008 portion of its schedule with a win over Regis (79-43) and loss to host Bentley (94-37) in a three-way meet Wednesday evening (Jan. 9).

Senior tri-captain Cori Eggert (Denville, NJ) led the Golden Bears by winning both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.87) and 50 butterfly (30.46) events.

“Cori’s time in the 100 breaststroke was not only her the best of the season, but it is faster than her best performance from last season as well,” said Western New England College coach Andrea Daley.

Freshman Eryn Brownlee (Montpelier, VT) placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:52.16) while classmate Aimee Smachetti (Bristol, CT) took second in the 100 butterfly (1:07.55).

Freshman Tiffany Santilli (Southbridge, MA) took third in three races, the 200 freestyle (2:24.39), 100 freestyle (1:06.65), and 500 freestyle (6:25.34).
