WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Western New England College women's swimming team placed fourth among four schools at the BlueJay Pentathlon in its season opener Saturday (Oct. 27).
Eastern Connecticut took first followed by Wheelock and host St. Joseph College (Connecticut).
Sophomore Krista Goulet (Saco, ME) placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.38) and fifth in the 100 individual medley (1:12.28).
Freshman Aimee Smachetti (Bristol, CT) did well in her collegiate debut taking third in the 100 butterfly (1:07.39).
Freshman Samantha Sihelnick (Stockholm, NJ) also enjoyed a successful meet finishing seventh in both the 100 breaststroke (1:21.25) and 100 butterfly (1:13.24) events.
"Our relays were faster than they were last year, but we faced much tougher competition," said Western New England College coach Andrea Daley. "There were a lot of good swims today and some of the returning athletes had faster times than last year, so this is a good sign for much personal success this season."
