Team effort leads Western New England College past St. Joseph (Conn.)

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.  – Senior Cori Eggert (Denville, NJ), sophomore Krista Goulet (Saco, ME), and freshman Aimee Smachetti (Bristol, CT) each won two events to lead the Western New England College women’s swimming team to a 119.5 to 113.5 victory over host St. Joseph (Conn.) Friday night (Jan. 25).

Eggert captured both the 50-yard breaststroke (35.40 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1 minute, 16.22 seconds).

Smachetti took first in the 100 butterfly (1:05.98) and 500 freestyle (6:12.57) races

Goulet captured both the 200 freestyle (2:14.07) and 100 backstroke (1:10.53) events.

Western New England College’s 200-medley relay team of junior Katy Purdum (North Attleboro, MA), freshman Brittney Lucibello (Orange, CT), Smachetti, and sophomore Jessica Daluise (Southboro, MA) placed first in 1:47.66.

Freshman Tiffany Santilli (Southbridge, MA) won the 1000 freestyle (12:47.30) and took second in the 50 freestyle (29.28).

Freshman Melanie Bush (Bristol, CT) won the 50 freestyle (29.17) and 100 freestyle (1:04.65) events for the Blue Jays.

Western New England College now has a 5-7 record.
