Western New England College defeats Gordon for first victory of season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England College women’s swimming team defeated visiting Gordon College 128-114 Thursday evening (Nov. 15) for the first victory of the season.

Senior  tri-captain Cori Eggert (Denville, NJ) won the 50-yard breaststroke (35.85 seconds) and placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.13) in her first appearance of the season.

Freshman Tiffany Santilli (Southbridge, MA) captured the 1000 freestyle (12:36.54), finishing 16 seconds better from the first time she swam the race on November 3 against Bridgewater State. She also took first in the 100 freestyle (1:04.11).

Other winners for the Golden Bears were sophomores Katelyn Skrzypiec (Manchester, CT), 50 backstroke (34.68), Jessica Daluise (Southboro, MA), 50 freestyle (29.85), and Krista Goulet (Saco, ME), 500 freestyle (6:04.31), and freshman Aimee Smachetti (Bristol, CT), 50 butterfly (30.18).

The Golden Bears' 200-medley relay team of Goulet, Eggert, Smachetti, and Daluise had a winning time of 2:06.33.

Western New England College (1-1) visits Western Connecticut on Friday (Nov. 16) in its final meet before the Thanksgiving holiday.
