KINGSTON, R.I. (February 14, 2016) -
The Western New England University women's swimming team returned to action today with the third and final day of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships, hosted by the University of Rhode Island at the Tootell Aquatic Center.
 
The Golden Bears placed 12th in the 21-team field with 284.5 points. Roger Williams won the team title with 1453 points, while Keene State (1386) and Simmons (1093) finished second and third, respectively.
 
Sophomore Erika Sheinhait (Framingham, Mass.) qualified for the 100-yard individual medley finals with a time of 1:04.84 in the prelims, good for sixth overall. She followed that up with a sixth-place finish in the finals (1:04.61), earning All-New England honors for the third time this weekend.
 
Western New England's 400-yard freestyle relay of sophomore Jacquelyn Peterson (Beverly, Mass.), freshman Megan Empie (Delmar, N.Y.), senior Allison Ryan (Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Sheinhait finished eighth in the prelims with a time of 3:54.64.
 
Ryan also competed in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing 17th in the prelims (2:43.88), while sophomore Ali Johnstone (Southwick, Mass.) placed 30th (2:53.64).
 
Freshman Sophie Hryzan (Lakeville, Mass.) placed 22nd in the 50-yard backstroke prelims, clocking in with a time of 32.11 seconds. Empie finished 19th in the 200-yard butterfly prelims (2:42.92).
