Jackson, N.J. native averaged 5.10 digs per set in 2-1 week for Golden Bears
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 25, 2017) – For the second time this season and third time in her career, senior Brianna Roath (Jackson, N.J.) of the Western New England University volleyball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Libero of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Roath averaged 5.10 digs per set as the Golden Bears went 2-1 last week with 3-0 wins over both Elms and Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, and a 3-1 loss to Wentworth on Saturday.
Roath got her week started by recording nine digs and a career-high five service aces on Tuesday as Western New England defeated Elms in its home opener. The senior captain followed that up with 16 digs, two more aces and two assists on Wednesday in the Golden Bears' CCC opener at Eastern Nazarene, before capping her week with 26 digs, three aces and three assists in Saturday's four-set loss to Wentworth.
Through 14 matches this season, Roath leads the CCC with 4.60 digs per set and ranks second in the conference with 221 total digs. She has totaled 10+ digs in ten of Western New England's 14 matches this fall, with a season-high of 35 coming in the Golden Bears' 3-2 loss at WPI on September 14.
Western New England (7-7, 1-1 CCC) will be on the road at Gordon and Wellesley on Tuesday and Thursday night, respectively, before returning home to host Westfield State and Eastern Connecticut State in a tri-match on Saturday.
