Women's Cross Country Totals 171 Points for Sixth at the Smith College Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Western New England University women's cross country team recorded 171 points for a sixth-place showing out of nine teams at the Smith College Invitational on Saturday.

Leading the way for the Golden Bears was sophomore Kathleen Silveira who finished the 5-kilometer course in 22 minutes and 20.17 seconds for 31st out of 101 competitors. Freshman Meagan Dias (22:24.64, 33rd), junior Amy Grindle (23:24.51, 50th), senior Hailie Laviolette (23:37.7, 55th) and junior co-captain Rachel Duda (24:07.63, 60th) also figured into the team's scoring.

Mount Holyoke College was the team champion with 44 points. Sophomore Shannon Conley from NCAA Division II St. Anselm College was the individual winner in 19:40.27.

Western New England, which returns to the course next Saturday at UMass Dartmouth, finished ahead of Hampshire College, Framingham State and Bay Path.
